Radiation Safety Refresher Seminar

The March 19, 2011 meeting of the Pacific Northwest Section of ASNT was held at the Seattle Mountaineers Club, 7700 Sand Point Way NE, Seattle WA 98115 – previously Sandpoint NAS and home to military blimps. Twenty-four members attended to hear speakers that included Bruce Busby, RSO and CHP at Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center; Karen Plessa, Radioactive Materials Program Manager, Office of Hazardous Materials Enforcement, Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration of the USDOT; Craig Lawrence of Washington State DOH Radioactive Materials Section and Billie Harvey, also of Washington State DOH Radioactive Materials Section present topics related to health and safety, regulations that effect industrial radiographers, and incidents that have involved industrial radiographers and members of the general public. Also included was an update on current radiological events in Japan. Section chairman Bill Wahmuth presented the opening presentation with a brief overview of the local section, past and upcoming section events and encouragement to attend local meetings on a regular basis. Lunch was ordered from Ingallina’s Box Lunch for all attendees and speakers. The event was concluded with a game of Radiation Safety Jeopardy.
